SEDGEHILL GOLD (JED), 1993 golden palomino, 15 hand pure bred Quarter Horse stallion, registered with the American Quarter Horse Association, the American Quarter Horse Association, UK, the National Foundation Quarter Horse Association and the British Palomino Society. He has 92% Foundation blood. ‘Jed’ is a true all rounder. He has competed successfully in English dressage, in Western trail and in Western pleasure. He has cut cattle and has taught novices to ride.
Jed’s pedigree is full of top cutting and performance horses. His dam, Hollywood Hallmark, was bred by Prince Philip and was owned by Cotesbach in her later years – a lovely mare and a point earner producer. His paternal grandsire, Pesky Tonka was an AQHA Champion, earned an open Register of Merit and 115.5 performance points in eight different events. Hollywood Cotton, his maternal grandsire, fondly remembered by many, was one of Canada’s top ten cutting horses and number one of the British Quarter Horse Association stud books, achieving a ROM and NCHA earnings. His maternal grandsire on the other side was the World Speed record holder at the age of two, Super Charge. Hollywoods Parke, his maternal great grandsire was a Reserve World Champion NCHA producer and sire of a Hall of Fame inductee and earners of over $46,000. His sire, the legend, Hollywood Gold, was the grandsire of the hugely famous Million dollar sire, Hollywood Dun It. The great King, features heavily in the background and further back the legendary Peter McCue, appears all through the early pedigree.
Jed is always a perfect gentleman in the stable, when covering and out and about and is unshaken by anything from jet planes to heavy gunfire (tolerating an uncomfortably close battle re enactment at a WHA show with bemused indifference). With his heavily muscled, old fashioned Quarter Horse looks, his agility and his kind temperament, which he passes to his many offspring, he is a super example of the breed. His glorious burnished gold colour is the icing on the cake.
HOLLYWOODS BLUE KING ‘Bill, is an imported, 100% NFQHA Foundation, grullo stallion. We brought him into the country from the Southern state of Georgia in 2004, as a weanling and he is growing into a beautiful stallion. He has a lovely compact shape, beautiful classic head, bombproof temperament and the highly desireable grullo colouring (blue dun in English) with no white markings. H has a shine like polished pewter.
Bill’s pedigree is now almost unique and positively historic, with the great AQHA Hall of Fame stallion, King, his son, Continental King , the legend, Hollywood Gold and Queen H, one of AQHA’s all time leading dams, all in the first five generations. Bill’s grandsire, Hollywood Bill, was an AQHA superior cutting horse and the closeup relative of superb legends such as Joe Hank, Squaw H, Hank H and Booger H (see ‘Bill’s Breeding Background’ writeup for more information).
Bill was started by Lee Rutter towards the end of 05 and responded brilliantly from the first to his training. Once Lee had the saddle on his back, he walked, jogged, loped and turned within the hour and continued to learn each move as quickly as he was taught, always relaxed and easy going from the start. He continued his training in the Spring of 2006 with Sam Magdeleno in Derbyshire, starting flying changes and great stops and really enjoying every new lesson. He is showing great talent as a truly versatile, all round stallion, fulfilling the promise of his legendary pedigree. He has a lot to live up to!
Bill has learnt to cover in hand in a gentlemanly fashion and his first foals are looked forward to in 2007.
