All the mares bred from at Cotesbach are sound and all who are old enough have been broken and proven in Western riding. All are National Foundation Quarter Horse Association registered, the association with the highest criteria for Foundation blood. Since we consider the Dam to be just as, if not more important than the Sire in breeding, they have been very carefully chosen for their Foundation bloodlines, their type, their sweet and sensible temperaments and their soundness, all of which they are passing on to their offspring.
Hollwood Gata de Oro (imp) – Hollywood Peppy x Ms Alley Cat. ‘Kitten’ was imported in 1995 as a yearling by Cotesbach along with her two half sisters from a small ranch, with wonderful foundation stock, in Pennsylvania. She is a beautiful looking, powerful mare - palomino and the tallest, standing at 15.2hh. She was bought for her bloodlines and she has been no disappointment. She has the distinction of having the highest percentage of Foundation blood, at 95%. She is a wonderfully quiet and responsive ride, with the temperament of a big friendly dog, which all her foals have inherited.
Holly Colonel Seven (imp) – Triple Colonel x Ms Dana Lou. ‘Holly’ was imported in 1993 and was purchased by Cotesbach in 1995. She has 89% Foundation blood and is a wonderfully bred mixture of the legendary Colonel Freckles and Hollywood Gold, with King featuring many times in her pedigree. Her half sister, Sensational Keeper, owned by Bob and Christine Mayhew, with whom she came into the country, is an AQHA Champion. Holly is a most attractive mare, standing at 14.3hh, with a honey palomino coat, a powerful build, a very intelligent attitude and a wonderful sweet nature. She is producing big, beautiful, highly talented youngsters.
CB Hollywood Gold Cat - Sedgehill Gold x Hollywood Gata de Oro. Pepita was bred at Cotesbach and started her stud duties in 2001 with a beautiful palomino colt foal by Tinsel King, our first double bred Cotesbach foal. She is a glorious golden palomino, solidly built and has the same perfect trusting temperament as her dam, Hollywood Gata de Oro. She is always very much admired by visitors both for her fabulous golden colour and for her sweet trusting temperament. She has been trained by Sam Magdaleno and proved to be a willing and easy ride. She was placed first in her class at the AQHA.UK breed show at Grantham in 1998. She is 93% Foundation bred.
Talawater Holly Lou – Pesky Silver Foam x Hollywood Tika Mico. (92% Foundation blood.) Born in 1999, and with terrific size and substance, ‘Tally’ is the buckskin daughter of one of the two half sisters of Hollywood Gata de Oro, (and booked before she was born!) who were imported together by Cotesbach in 1994 (see above). Her sire, Pesky Silver Foam, is almost full brother to Jed. The combination of British and American bloodlines contains several crosses to Hollywood Gold, King and many other ‘Legends’. Being the same bloodlines as Jed, she has the same wonderful sensible, easy going temperament as the home bred foals and is very much admired by visitors. Her first foal, a palomino colt, has been very successful in the show ring and her second, is a beautiful perlino colt, sold as a stallion. What next?
Quintana Zoey (imp) – Slick Rock Turk x Quik Sundance. Quinta, a beautiful silver grulla, is one of the few imported Grullo mares in the country, and is from one of the best grullo bloodlines in the States. Her grandfather on both sides, Pocos Gray Comet, a 100% foundation grullo stallion and grandson of the great Poco Bueno, is owned by the Jaz Ranch, the founders of the National Foundation Quarter Horse Association. She has, as a consequence, 92% Foundation blood and great Foundation names all through her pedigree. She has been started under saddle in the States, continuing a little here and has proved to be a sweet and very willing ride. Her stunning silver grulla colouring, her kind temperament and her powerful good looks fit in perfectly with the Cotesbach breeding programme. Her first foal was a stunning buttermilk dun.
CB Poco Leo Scarlet – Sovereign King x Tumbleweed Tascosa. Scarlet is the 1999 daughter of Tumbleweed Tascosa, a lovely, well known mare owned by Cotesbach for several years. This mare has produced many super foals among them show jumpers and eventers, successful AQHA point earners and a highly successful three times World Qualifying stallion. Scarlet’s pedigree is superb with the great Leo and World Champion, AQHA Hall of Fame Maddons Bright Eyes producing the legendary stallion, Bright Red, her Great Grandsire on her dam’s side. Her grandsire is Rocky Mountain Zero, the one time British International Junior Event Team member and winner at Wembley with many other famous names behind him. Her sire, Sovereign King was a beautiful ranch type stallion of impeccable (88%) foundation breeding with several crosses to the great King P234 and highly successful parents, the international reining stallion Mucho Bueno Lynx, now in Germany, and the memorable Chunkys Cutie. Scarlet is an eye catching red sorrel filly with the sweetest temperament, a fantastic build, the prettiest head and a wonderful mature attitude. She has proved to be both kind and quick to learn in her ridden training. She has 82% Foundation blood. Her first foal to Jed, a gorgeous golden palomino colt, is just perfect.
Jets Champagne Mist (imp) – Jetsmoke n Thunder x Snappers Class Act. Imported from Kentucky in late 03, the rarest of the rare, a foundation registered Classic Champagne filly. Misty is coming up for three, but is built like a tank and is one the few Champagne fillies in the country and, most likely, Europe. Champagne is a dominant gene and these horses are born with pink skin and blue eyes The pink skin soon changes to grey mottled and the eyes darken to amber shades, but the coat, depending on which of the four Champagne shades the foal is, will glow with a luminescence due to the special hollow nature of the hair fibre. The best way to describe Misty’s colour is like a Weimeraner dog with a smoky mane and tail and lower legs. Not only is she a beautiful colour, but her temperament is delightful and her breeding is very exciting with superb cutting performance and working blood in her lines and registered at 87% Foundation. Fifty percent of Misty’s offspring will be Champagne, so we can’t wait to see what she can produce in years to come. She has started her preliminary training and has proved to be quick to learn and responsive.
Bows Sip a Champagne (imp) Bows Black Thunder x Ms Cocoa Bars. Imported in late 2004, from the same ranch as Misty, above, Pumpkin is an equally rare Gold Champagne. She is by the pure black, 97% Foundation World Foundation Quarter Horse Association Champion siring, grandsire of Misty, and is sure to be a credit to Cotesbach with her breeding, her temperament and her gorgeous spun gold palomino type colouring. Only a youngster as yet but with a lovely steady, sensible temperament and super conformation, she will be a huge asset to Cotesbach.
CB Tinsels Whitegold (pedigree) – Tinsel King x Hollywood Gata de Oro. 91% foundation blood. One of my last foals from my former golden buckskin stallion Tinsel King. In 2002, AQHA decided, after a good deal of campaigning from interested parties, that Cremellos and Perlinos should be able to be registered as pure bred Quarter Horses.
Tinsel is a dazzling cremello with such perfect conformation, looks and affectionate temperament that she just had to stay. She is only a youngster but is growing fast and promises to be just as sweet as her mother. We are looking forward to the day when she produces her first foal to new stallion, Hollywoods Blue King. Whatever it is, it will be a stunner!
Jets Leather n Lace – Jetsmoke n Thunder x Tufenoughfortwo. Another one from Kentucky. Pure black with four white socks and a white double blaze – ‘top hat and tails’ and pretty with it. Lacey has a sweet temperament and true chunky old fashioned looks, even at her young age. Bred with Two Eyed Jack cow sense in the background and Poco Bueno close up, she should be hugely sensible and versatile and fit in perfectly with the breeding program.
During the mares's visit we keep closely in touch with her owners, happy to discuss progress and for them to visit - we know how precious their mare is to them and we like to treat her as we would our own.
